Privacy Notice
Last updated: October 25, 2026
This notice explains what information Trailmarker (trailmarker.app) collects, who can see it, and the choices you have. Trailmarker is a free passion project. We never sell your information or share it with advertisers.
What we collect
- Your account: email address, password (stored encrypted), username, display name and home country.
- Your profile, if you fill it in: profile photo, home city, the city you live in now, upcoming travel plans, bio, travel style, favourite and dream countries, a travel experience and motto, and your public travel page settings.
- Your map: the places you pin (with their map location), your lists, visit and lived-here dates, notes and recommendations.
- Photos, trips, stories, comments and likes you add. Photos are resized in your browser before upload. Photos carrying hidden metadata, such as GPS location, are re-saved, which removes that metadata.
- Share cards: when you save or share a share card, we keep a copy along with your display name and email, so we can credit you if we use it to promote Trailmarker (see the Terms). Copies we don't pick are deleted after 7 days.
- Messages and invites: what you send us through the Contact or Suggestions forms, and the email address of any friend you invite. Your invitation shows them your email address so they can reply to you.
- Usage: the days you use Trailmarker, and a daily count of views on each story and trip (not linked to who viewed it). Our providers also process your IP address and browser details to run the site and keep it secure.
- Your agreement to the Terms: which version you agreed to and when.
Who can see what
- Only you: your pins, lists, notes, visit dates and private photos, and your drafts.
- Trailmarker's reviewers: stories and trips you submit, and comments, before they're published, plus the details needed to run the site, such as account email addresses.
- Anyone, including search engines: approved stories, live trips (including the photos you choose for them, even photos you've kept private on your pins), and approved comments, shown with your display name, username and profile photo.
- Anyone with the link to your public travel page (trailmarker.app/t/…): your display name, username, profile photo and the profile details you've filled in, including home city, the city you live in now and upcoming plans, plus how many countries and places you've pinned, and your published stories and live trips. It never shows individual pins, notes or private photos. Don't add details to your profile that you wouldn't want public.
- Traveler search: profiles set to be visible to all users, or with a published story, can be found by name, showing name, username, profile photo and home city.
- Promotion: published content may be shown on Trailmarker's social media and ads, with credit to you, as described in the Terms.
Once something is public, other people can copy or share it, and we can't always undo that.
Services that help run Trailmarker
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Lovable: hosting the website and sending our emails.
- Google: Google Analytics (visit statistics), Google Fonts, and our inbox for contact messages.
- Map services: to show maps and search for places, your browser connects directly to CARTO, OpenStreetMap, Photon (Komoot), Wikidata and GitHub. They see your IP address and what you searched or viewed on the map, but not your account.
These services may store information outside your country, including in the United States. We share information beyond them only if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or if Trailmarker is ever handed to a new operator, who would have to keep these promises.
Cookies and browser storage
Your browser stores your sign-in session, so you stay signed in, and your preferences (theme, map filters, drafts). Google Analytics uses cookies to count visits and see which pages and features are used, including map actions such as adding a pin. You can block analytics cookies in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out add-on.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. You can delete pins, photos, trips and comments yourself at any time. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and private content. Your published stories and live trips may stay on Trailmarker without your name unless you ask us to remove them too. Copies may remain in backups for a short time, and content already used in promotion may stay where it was posted.
Your choices and rights
Email nikolaswood92@gmail.com to get a copy of your information, correct it, delete your account, or ask us to stop using something in promotion. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including complaining to your local data-protection authority. We'll answer within a month.
Children
Trailmarker isn't for children under 13. If you think a child has signed up, tell us and we'll delete the account.
Changes and contact
We'll post changes here and update the date above, and tell you in the app if anything important changes. Questions: Trailmarker, nikolaswood92@gmail.com.
