Aonang Krabi, Thailand
Ao Nang Solo Workcation : No Islands. No Plans. Just Work, Beach & Repeat.
I didn't need to go island hopping every day or fill every hour with activities. I just wanted somewhere I could work, slow down, eat good food, and enjoy being somewhere beautiful.

My trip might sound a little boring to people who love packed itineraries and adventure activities, but I still wanted to share it, along with some activity ideas, in case any of you are looking for a more laid-back trip.
About two years ago, I got the chance to work from home, and honestly… I was getting so bored working from my apartment or random coffee shops in Bangkok.
So I started thinking:
Where could I go to escape the city, work remotely, and chill by the beach — without renting a motorbike and pretending to be one of those digital nomads who can work literally anywhere?
I also wanted to meet some new people and practice my English, so I figured it could be a good chance to step out of my comfort zone a little.
Then Ao Nang popped into my mind.
I had actually been to Ao Nang more than 10 years ago with my friends, and I remembered that it was pretty convenient, the beach wasn't far, and there were plenty of places around without necessarily needing a motorbike.
Plus, I had a friend and a cousin living there, so I thought, *why not?*
The next question was: How could I keep the budget reasonable if I wanted to stay for five days?
I figured staying in a hostel would be the easiest way to save money. But there was one problem…
I'm an introvert.
I definitely didn't want a crazy party hostel where everyone is drinking and going out every night. I wanted somewhere social enough to meet people, but still peaceful enough that I could actually sleep, work, and low-key try to make some friends along the way.
Thankfully, I found a hostel that pretty much ticked all my boxes, and it was only around 300 baht ($9) per night — not too bad!
Actually, the next time I went, I found an even cheaper place for around 240 baht ($7.50) per night.
At that point, I thought, *Okay, I'm doing this.*
I booked my flight and flew there the very next day.
And the flight was surprisingly cheap , only around 1,000 baht ($31). I guess that's one of the perks of traveling during low season!
And that's where my first solo trip in the rainy-season story in Ao Nang began…
🌴 And then… Ao Nang
The first thing that impressed me when I arrived at my hostel was the HUGE mountain right in front of it, with a beautiful sky behind it.
I don't know why, but I really loved seeing that mountain every day. Even just walking around Ao Nang and seeing those mountains along the way somehow made me feel good.
That's one thing I really love about Krabi.
It's not as urban or chaotic as Phuket, and even when you're around the town area, you can still feel that slower, more local vibe.
💻 My "digital nomad" life
Most of the day, I'd just work.
Sometimes I'd work at the hostel because they had a café and workspace on the ground floor.
Other days, I'd go to The Coffee Club because I could sit there, work, and look at the beach.
And then, at around 5 PM , I'd stop working and go to the beach.
I'd just lie there, watch the sunset, and sometimes watch the fire show.
That's basically it.
Work. Good food. Beach. Sunset. Sleep. Repeat.
And honestly?
That was enough for me.
I didn't need to go island hopping every day or fill every hour with activities. I just wanted somewhere I could work, slow down, eat good food, and enjoy being somewhere beautiful.
👋 Did I actually make any friends?
Yes! I actually did.
One day, I was working at the hostel café and noticed a girl who looked like she was traveling solo.
I said hi.
And that's how the conversation started.
She was from Indonesia and was also traveling while working remotely, basically doing exactly what I was doing.
We ended up hanging out, walking around Ao Nang, and going to Ao Nang Landmark Night Market together.
We shared some food, talked about traveling and life, and that evening we were lucky enough to catch a really beautiful sunset.
Another day, I met a Chinese girl who was taking a gap year after graduating.
We walked to Monkey Trail together and ended up talking about life along the way.
So yeah…
Making new friends mission: accomplished!!
It was one of those random travel moments that you don't plan but end up remembering.
🌅 And then I randomly decided to go to Railay
There was another day when I suddenly thought:
"Hmm… I want to see the sunset at Railay."
No plan. 😂
So at around 4:30 PM, I just bought a ticket and went.
I only had about an hour there because I had to catch the last longtail boat back to Ao Nang before around 6:30 PM, so I didn't have time to properly explore Railay.
But honestly? Still worth it.
I got to walk around, see the scenery, and catch a beautiful sunset.
On the way back to Ao Nang, I shared a longtail boat with a group of French travelers.
They were super nice, and somehow even that short boat ride became another little travel memory.
🐈 And then there was this guy…
One of the things that made me ridiculously happy during my stay was a stray cat I found around my hostel.
He was SO cute and friendly.
I gave him some treats and petted him whenever I saw him.
And after that, every time I came back to the hostel, I would automatically look around for him.
Unfortunately, I didn't see him the last time I went there.
I really hope he's doing well somewhere. ❤️
🏝️ But Ao Nang isn't just about doing nothing
Of course, if you're the type of traveler who loves activities, Krabi has A LOT to offer.
You can:
* 🏝️ Take a day trip to the beautiful islands * 🧗 Go rock climbing in Railay * 🛶 Go kayaking at Ao Thalane or Klong Root * 🌄 Hike to viewpoints * 🥾 Explore different trails * 🛕 Visit Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple) * …and so much more
So, that's my very ordinary 6-day slow escape to Ao Nang..
No packed itinerary. No island hopping every day. No extreme adventures. Nothing exciting. Just healing.
So if you're looking for a different kind of Ao Nang trip — especially during rainy season maybe you'll enjoy this one. :)

🚐 How to get to Ao Nang
From Krabi Airport
You can take a shared van, taxi, or Grab from the airport to your hotel/hostel. Just give them the name of your accommodation and they should be able to take you there.
⚠️ Be a little careful with transportation scams and always check the price before getting in.
Recent price (September 2026): Shared van to Ao Nang — around 150 baht ($4.70)
From Krabi Town
If you're staying around Mueang Krabi, you can:
* 🚐 Take the white songthaew from Vogue Department Store Krabi — around 100 baht ($3.10) (September 2026) * 🚕 Take Grab * 🛵 Rent a motorbike
🛵 Getting around Ao Nang
Ao Nang itself is pretty walkable, especially if you're staying near the beach.
But if you want to explore further, I'd recommend renting a motorbike if you're comfortable riding one. It's usually cheaper than taking a local taxi or Grab for every trip.
If you're traveling alone and don't want to rent a motorbike:
* 🚶 Walk when possible * 🛵 GrabBike can be a cheaper option * 🚕 Local taxis/tuk-tuks can get expensive when you're traveling alone * 👯♀️ Or share a ride with other travelers when possible
🍜 Where to eat
[Restaurant 1 – https://maps.app.goo.gl/wd2Tt5b8jG6YSpym6]
A simple local restaurant where you can find different kinds of Thai food without spending too much. Their Pad Kra Pao and Tom Yum noodles were really good.
[Restaurant 2 – https://maps.app.goo.gl/K1hgMWsuPruG83448 ]
A local Southern Thai kanomjeen restaurant I'd recommend if you want to experience more of the local side of food in Krabi. I also wrote a little more about Kanom Jeen if you're curious!
🛏️ Where I stayed
This was the hostel I stayed at when I wanted somewhere peaceful, comfortable, and work-friendly.
